1. ENIAC was, like the thermionic valves ( vacuum tubes ). 2. Bell Labs did not develop a satisfactory thermionic diode for microwave reception. 3. Thermionic currents can be increased by decreasing the work function.4. A thermionic diode is a plate ( anode ). 5. Semiconductor devices have replaced thermionic devices ( vacuum tubes ) in most applications. 6. The elecrons can be provided by thermionic emission and / or secondary emission. 7. However, Mahan's paper concluded that thermionic refrigeration couldn't work. 8. Mahan's original paper envisaged two major obstacles to room-temperature thermionics . 9. The thermionic valve was invented in 1904 by the English physicist John Ambrose Fleming. 10. The war increased demand for such instruments and the War Office needed experimental thermionic valves.
